Aster Campaign Session 9 (Final)

As the Cloud giant Goruthan brings the floating castle down towards the mountain behind the town of Riventa, the gigantic white dragon looks up at them, but does not move from the nest of ice that it has formed on the ruins of the temple of Aster. The orb of Aster, an ancient dragon egg is lighting up the nest in the dim moonlight. The heroes discuss their options. Ramming the castle intot the dragon is suggested but Goruthan looks doubtful. Ix casts Sending to the Dwarven Wizard Satrogur “We need your assistance. Be ready to send us to the astral plane when we recall to the Dwarven stronghold.” Satrogur confirms. The party decides that extracting the egg from under the dragon is the main thing they need to do. Using a bag of holding will at least shield them from its deathly touch, and may have some interaction with the enchantments on the egg itself. Goruthan saddles up the two rocs at the back of the cloud castle, and the Fire Giant Grugnok (friend of Sengo) flies Nagwen to distrac

Aster Campaign Session 8

The party is exhausted and head to their quarters in the castle, and there is a slight tremor. Teren attunes to the silver sword looted from the Ultroloth’s bag of holding. The other items in the bag are: 85 soul gems Jewellery worth 12000gp A small brass ship's wheel (magic of some kind) A vial of magical oil A tome of instructions and advice, slightly magical. A stone carved into the shape of a die, magical A smooth stone with a hole in it, magical The party wake at dawn when another tremor shakes the mountain next to the town, sending some rocks down. Worried now about how the Orb of Aster in the temple will respond to the souls lost last night as well as the soul of the Ultroloth that had gained a divine spark, Julius performs Divination. He sacrifices 10 soul gems and some jewellery to call upon Kelemvor. His vision darkens and he senses the presence of his patron. “When will the dragon egg kept in the temple nearby hatch?” A deep voice in his head echoes “A new god will be bo

In the town square at night, everyone is dealing with the aftermath. Bodies are being shrouded, and taken up to the church on the hill behind the town. Sister Euberi announces a service at daybreak for the dead to ensure they are with Aster. The new king Hanum of Dactris is furious that the party cannot resurrect his father. Julius placates him somewhat with a complicated religious explanation of the difficulties of resurrection, and the promise that they could try again (but the party does not expect it will be possible, due to the Pearl of Aster in the valley consuming departed souls). King Hanum sends word to his home Dactris for help, and will depart for home tomorrow morning. He is suspicious of the magic used by Ix that may have accidentally killed his father in the mid-air roc collision but cannot act upon it right now and is visibly suppressing his rage. He does realise the party’s ability and offers a reward for the return of the crown. The party notices that the dead cloud g

Aster Campaign Session 6

Early in the morning, the party is all given tunics in the regalia of King Agrilus to wear as they will be serving as personal guards during the visit of King Jotun of Dactris. Last minute study of the Wizard Yosombi’s journal divulges the names of the ultroloth they encountered in the astral plane: C’thanubaal. The party debates whether to contact it to let it know about the crown of command that it wants belonging to King Jotun, but they opt to wait and see, at least until after the arrival. King Agrilus and his knights, and the party wait in front of the town to greet King Jotun’s retinue. There is a crowd of commoners gathered too. King Agrilus is rather nervous being without his Rod of rulership. After King Agrilus’ greeting, the crowd gives a polite clap, but then King Jotun gives a rousing speech praising the land and the gracious people who welcomed him, and the crowd erupts into cheers (obviously spurred on by the charm induced by the crown of command). Terren succumbs to thi

The furry Arcanoloth falls to the floor of the cabin and begins to dissolve into a pool of ichor. Valrick spots a pouch it was wearing and snatches that out before it gets dissolved too. Still hastened, he checks inside and sees: an iron key, a map of Barovia with the Hag’s hut marked on it. A map of the mountain area they are in with a white dragon lair to the north marked on it, and a giant’s cave to the south. Also, five glowing gems, 55 gold pieces, and an adamantine rod. Sengo casts See Invisible but the Ultroloth is nowhere to be seen in the cabin. Nagwen, Sengo and Terren exit the cabin out onto the deck of the ship and spot several insectoid mezzoloths on the foredeck. They loose some arrows at them, then Serma charges forwards, flying up to the foredeck (they are in the Astral plane). Still hasted, Serma deals increasingly shocking amounts of damage as she is also damaged in return.  Before Ix and Julius can act, the entire ship just disappears, and they are left hovering 20

Guard Captain Ritssler (Jason Statham) arrives at the gate and scolds the guard who detained the party. He offers to escort the party to King Agrilus to report their findings, but the party needs an hour to investigate Ketri’s workshop to ask about the gnome spy Agamon.  The party points out the evidence points strongly towards Agamon and possibly Ketri being involved in the theft, so she tries to be helpful. Ketri was expecting her cousin Agamon back a week ago from a month-long trip to moonstair for crafting supplies. She suspects he bunked off as he is a bit of a slacker. He definitely did not have the ability to craft a construct like the bird. Ketri says she didn’t craft it but could examine it if they brought it. She says Agamon has a key to the external cellar, which they investigate. Nagwen spots a well-hidden teleport circle , which is apparently news to Ketri, and a cubby next to it that smells faintly of animal fur. They also see some adamantine rods that Sengo pilfers as ba

That night, the party meets their old friend Sengo in the eating hall of the dwarven stronghold. (Actually Julius and Valrick are the only characters that know him from Barovia). Sengo was hunting down the two remaining night hags in Barovia and had tracked them to this plane. He exited the Astral plane 1000 feet up like the party did, but unlike them he had no spell to fly, and would have died if not found by dwarves who saw him fall and brought him back to the stronghold to recuperate. While he catches up with the party, the Dwarven wizard Satrogur from the stronghold overhears and offers to cast See Invisible for them. Sengo has Tiny Hut, which should protect them, unless a hag happened in the Ethereal plane to be next to them when he casts it. Ix swaps a spell with Satrogur to get See Invisible. When casting the spells that night, the wizard spots some astral squids that had latched on to Ix, and blasts them off! They clear the area and cast Tiny Hut. The next morning, everyone h
